Standards for Potential Drivers
Policy:
It is the policy of GHI to establish qualification standards for professional drivers entrusted with company equipment and our customers’ products on public highways. The minimum qualification standards for drivers are:
Maximum of one valid commercial drivers license (Class A CDL) from the state of the driver’s domicile. (exceptions to domicile rule need Directors approval)
Minimum of three-year regional and/or local verifiable tractor-trailer experience, of which one year must be within the last three years.
Stable employment history. No more than one employer in the last year. More than four in the last three years disqualifies the applicant. (Unless circumstances prevented continued employment)
Minimum age of 23
All applicants are subject to the following screening:
- Security criminal background check
- Motor Vehicle Record
- Pre-Employment Screening Program
- Previous employment history check
No DUI & DWI / reckless driving convictions (personal for 10 years) (lifetime for commercial) or any other motor vehicle violation(s) which in the opinion of the Safety Department warrants disqualification. (Personal vehicle convictions over 10 years must first be approved by the Director of Safety)
No moving violations within the last 36 months and no accidents within the last 36 months.
A driver applicant having any of the following violations on their motor vehicle record within the last 5 years must be reviewed further to determine potential issues with driver’s behavior:
- Improper or erratic lane changes
- Failure to yield right of way
- Improper turn
- Failure to keep in proper lane
- Drivers with multiple suspensions
Driver must meet or exceed all qualifications and standards established by FMCSA and Grocery Haulers, Inc.
